Founder/Director of First Soccer Ltd

Coach Rich

Richard started his coaching career in 1997 working as a coach for Wycombe Wanderers FC Community scheme under Dave Evans. He ran sessions across the county and was regulary in charge of Holiday Camps, In-School Coaching sessions, After School Clubs and Centre of Excellence sessions. In 2003 Richard moved to America to spend 2 years working with UK Elite who are widely regarded as one of the strongest coaching organisations in the States. Working under the guidance of Patrick McCarrey, Richard extended his coaching knowledge and experience of the game and working within teams.  When returning to England he worked with Chelsea FC in their foreign student package coaching children from all over Europe.

First Soccer came about from Richard’s passion for football coaching but ultimately it was his success at being able to understand and develop up and coming talent that had inspired him to pursue his own ambitions.  In 2007, Richard introduced advanced US coaching methods and structures which he studied extensively while in America and adapted it for the UK. First Soccer started as a idea and was trialed as a Saturday morning club, 5 years later First Soccer now coaches over 1000 children per week but his style of coaching isn’t just popular, his success can be proven by the amount of children that have progressed to professional clubs through the First Soccer Academy Platform.

Coach Rich Says: “With now over 20 players being coached at pro clubs, The Development centre is going from strength to strength, sold out holiday and school courses these are exciting times at First Soccer and I am very proud of what we have achieved so far, but this is just the start! The next step will be to franchise the brand and the beginning of organised Futsal leagues.”

Head of Development

Coach Simon

Simon, an ex-professional for 10 years, played over 200 league and cup matches, playing for top managers and coaches such as ex-England managers Steve Mclaren and Peter Taylor. Simon has also worked with Dennis Smith, Dave Sexton, Sammy Lee, Glenn Roeder, Peter Bonetti, Malcolm Crosby, Trevor Francis, Mick Mills and Ian Bowyer. Simon began his career at Luton Town aged 8 years old, training with the centre of excellence. He then he moved onto Brentford after being told he was to small, believing in his ability and working hard to achieve his ultimate goal to become a professional footballer he went for a weeks trial at Oxford United. It was at that point Simon was offered a YTS contract, where after playing for the reserves at Tottenham Hotspurs White Hart Lane Simon signed as a professional and made his first team debut in front of a crowd of 10,000 aged just 17 years old. Simon was also called upon to represent his country at under 21 level in the Toulon tournament. With his reputation in the pro game as an up and coming Left Back grew big clubs came looking and Simon found himself with a big money move to Birmingham City FC to play under Trevor Francis, Simon didn’t want to leave Oxford at the time but the club desperately needed the funds. Simon made his debut vs Oxford United in which the Blues came out 7 – 1 winners. Injury cut his time at Birmingham short and he went on loan to Brentford FC. With more injuries continuing to cause problems his playing days were over and coaching was to be his calling.

With proven success and experience in progressing from a child footballer to a top professional himself, Simon wanted to inspire others so started coaching as a player while at Oxford United FC.  Helping and developing Community coaches, Simon took satisfaction from passing on his knowledge to those who coached 7-9 year old’s new technichal skills.  Wanting to gain further knowledge and experience of advanced coaching methods, Simon showed his commitment by spending 12 months in America working for the leading academy, UK Elite.  Coaching ages between 3-19 years, and working on team coaching and team building with the American coaches,  Simon’s methods were very popular.  On being provided the chance to return for another year, Simon decided his passion was here in the UK where he wanted to focus his skills on developing UK children with his FA badges and First Soccer opportunity.
